The above article is from the Missouri Law Review; it examines a number of cases. In the first, State v Taylor, the use of this so-called syndrome in so-called expert evidence led to the reversal of a conviction in what was on the face of it a fairly straightforward case of rape, one in which the victim reported promptly and in which her claim was corroborated by physical evidence – including of a physical assault. In addition to that, the accused did not take the stand.
State v Nobles is even more ridiculous as the victim was nine years old and the accused admitted having sex with her but claimed she had consented. Excuse me!?! Because this so-called expert evidence was admitted (accidentally), the appellate court reversed and remanded for a new trial.
