January 2006: In the Irish Republic, Annette Egan accuses her former boss John Shaw of raping her twice – late September and early October 2004. Prior to filing the official report she had received counselling from a rape crisis centre. This is a tragic case that appears to have been triggered by the death of her husband.

As an aside here I found something similar locally, a bloke’s wife died, and he was convicted first of improper behaviour with an underage girl, then he was arrested for improper behaviour in a public toilet, the usual homo thing. The two offences are clearly incompatible, and just as clearly the poor bloke had lost his marbles. Back to Annette Egan...

She had worked part-time for Mr Shaw for eighteen years, apparently with no problems on either side, then after throwing a hissy fit, she walked out in September 2005.

After the rape allegation, the police investigated, and concluded they had not happened. She took him to an employment tribunal but lost, the judge going out of his way to stress the rape claims had no basis in fact. Finally, in July 2008 it was reported that she had lost her appeal, and had been ordered to pay costs.

The above was culled from various reports including the one below.
