November 14, 2014: John Canzano publishes an interview with self-styled rape survivor Brenda Tracy in The Oregonian.
In June 1998, the white single mother of two went to an apartment with four black members of the Oregon State University football team, as any decent young white woman would do. Not. Though as her sons are not white, perhaps we shouldn’t be too surprised. Copious amounts of alcohol were consumed, and Tracy had sex with all four. They claimed it was consensual; she said it was not.
She reported these alleged rapes promptly – like a genuine victim would – and the alleged rapists were arrested. Then she dropped the charges.
Clearly there is evidence both for and against: maybe she was raped by all or some permutation of them; maybe all the sex was consensual; maybe knowing the type of girl she was they thought she was consenting. At the very least, they were extremely careless, and she was extremely stupid, but in this interview, Tracy goes further, claiming to have been sexually abused by a family member up until the age of 5, and to have been raped at the age of 9 by a neighbour. She didn’t tell her parents about the latter for four years.
With regard to the allegation of sexual abuse by a family member, compare her claim with what the man said in the Roseanne Barr case and ask yourself how credible it is.
She says the first rape allegation was not pursued due to the statute of limitations, but it is more likely she was simply not believed; there is no mention of medical evidence, for the obvious reason. She claims too to have found herself in abusive relationships. While some people – men as well as women – do suffer from bad luck in personal relationships, Tracy is clearly a professional victim. She has also been active in the movement to repeal statutes of limitations for sex crimes, and has had some success.
Whatever conclusion may be drawn about the 1998 incident, the rape allegation at the age of 9 is clearly false, so Brenda Tracy should be filed under HEAD CASE.
