July 2007: Crystal Shinkle of Orlando, Florida, has sex with ne’er-do-well Casey Mundling.
At the time, Shinkle was one month short of her sixteenth birthday, and Mundling was twenty-three years old. If you want to call this statutory rape, I won’t argue, but the case as presented to the world by Shinkle herself is vastly different from what really happened. This kind of overt dishonesty makes it very difficult for juries – including in non-sex cases – to assess the credibility of complainants.
The world first learned of Crystal Shinkle in May 2008 when she uploaded this tearful video to YouTube.
The first question the skeptical viewer will ask is if she has been living in poverty her entire life, how come she has a webcam in her bedroom?
Mundling did not drug and rape her, she had sex with him willingly then regretted it; when you see his mugshot, you will understand why. Prosecutor Nicole Pegues took the brave but undoubtedly correct decision to drop the case because she believed the sex was consensual and in view of the fact that Shinkle was almost sixteen. Mundling was facing a burglary charge in any case.

When Shinkle appeals for help, what does she really mean? She wants this guy locked up for years, perhaps decades, not because he is any kind of threat to her, or because she is seeking justice, but because he is a jerk.
