September 5, 2014: Barnet Police launch a “wide ranging investigation” into the Hampstead Satanic Abuse Hoax.
The bottom line is that with the assistance of her lover Abraham Christie, Ella Draper decided to frame her estranged husband Ricky Dearman for child sexual abuse, but instead of simply accusing him of interfering with their son and daughter she accused him of being the leader of a Satanic coven that not only raped and otherwise sexually abused the young but murdered them! In an unusual move, the Family Court published its full findings of fact; they run to 165 paragraphs.
This is one of the most absurd stories of the decade, but due to the uncritical endorsement of the gullible (including Sabine McNeill) and cynical exploitation by people with less pure motives, it has run and run.
What I and doubtless many others had hoped would be the last chapter in this twisted affair was played out at Blackfriars Crown Court in July 2016. Alas!
Sabine refused to desist, ended up being arrested, remanded in custody for a lengthy period, then convicted and sentenced to nine years. The judge told her a twelve year sentence was warranted, but by this time the elderly Sabine was in quite bad health. The day I attended court, she was on crutches, or at least one walking aid. She didn’t notice me. After she was sentenced, I wrote to her, and she replied. Basically she still believes this Grand Conspiracy rubbish.
This article published in the wake of her sentencing contains the de rigueur unflattering photograph, and alludes to her as evil. The Sabine McNeill I knew was anything but evil, but she was and is incredibly gullible.
This is the transcript of her failed appeal against sentence. It pains me to have to agree with Lord Justice Leggatt.
