Twenty-two rapes were reported in Virginia Beach this year (up to what date is not given), eight of these were said to have been fabricated - not unfounded, but fabricated.
In 1985, there were 138 reports of rape and attempted rape, of which the police said 21% were false. According to police spokesman J.N. Perry, in one two week period he saw seven false reports.
