May 1, 1989: The gullible Oprah Winfrey interviews Vicki Polin. This one is hilarious. On the actual programme, Polin was given the pseudonym Rachel, and her being raped as a child was the least disturbing of her revelations.
Predictably the programme caused uproar with the usual charges of anti-Semitism; if Oprah had not been black she would never have survived it. Naturally the lunatic fringe made enormous capital from it too. Here is what is said to be Polin’s testimony concerning a bill in the Wisconsin Senate 19 years later. For what it is worth. Thankfully the organisation she founded in 1999 – The Awareness Center – closed in 2014.
