July 11, 2015: Here is a scandalous case from North Carolina. While calling at a gas station early in the morning, Jeremy Asbury finds a woman rifling through the back of his car; he pushes her out, and continues on his way. The following week he is arrested for rape, the woman had contacted the police and fed them a story about his kidnapping her at gunpoint, then robbing and raping her. She is said to have identified him from the CCTV at the gas station, which begs the question, didn’t the police see him getting in his car and driving away without her?
The charges were dismissed only on February 10, 2016, but what is really scandalous is that although their victim had apparently disappeared, prosecutors attempted to blackmail him into pleading guilty to solicitation of prostitution and registering as a sex offender.
