The single mother of three accuses them both of rape. This one is a classic.
She was said to have kept the alleged attack a secret until April 2004 when she was arrested for being drunk and disorderly plus the little matter of assaulting a police officer. She told her solicitor, who was of course obliged to report it. McGuire and Waring were suspended the following month and arrested in June, although they were not formally charged until March 23, 2005, each with rape and misconduct in public office.
The woman had been in a fight with a friend outside a public house in Warrington, and the two hapless plod offered to drive her home. Exactly why a woman in her early twenties and with three kids is out on the booze, even on New Year’s Eve, is another question.
She claimed to have had an abortion two weeks later because she feared one of them might be the father. Two weeks later? Yup!
McGuire said his colleague flirted with the woman, he actually French kissed her, which was a big mistake, even on New Year’s Eve. (I’ve kissed a policewoman on New Year’s Eve although my experience with a certain crooked woman defective in 1998 put me off that, but that’s another story).
McGuire was said to have been six foot five and nineteen stone at the time, so the idea of him fumbling with her on the back seat of a panda car, or an area car for that matter, doesn’t bear thinking about.
During the trial at Chester Crown Court, the woman was arrested for stealing a leather skirt from a shop in the Arndale Centre at Manchester. Unreal. She already had 15 previous convictions for 22 offences.
Thankfully they were both cleared, but Waring ended up being sacked. This was because in spite of the passage of time, a thorough examination of the vehicle turned up traces of semen, and he admitted shagging his mistress while on duty, probably out of bravado. Expensive bravado as it turned out. His wife, or rather his ex-wife, attended court with him!
Cheshire Police obviously went to incredible lengths to give this lying tart her day in court, something that is all the more surprising when one considers the extreme lengths to which the police will go to protect their own, as I know from personal experience, but this was an allegation of bent for self rather than bent for the job, so doesn’t count.
I can find no further reports regarding McGuire, so I assume he kept his job.
This one can only be filed under NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED.
Compare with similar entries, in particular Catherine Steven (1998 – also New Year’s Eve!) and Victoria Patrick (May 2007).
