Hayes was found sitting outside a Chinese restaurant then taken to Galway University Hospital for a forensic examination. She gave the name of a man, who was swiftly eliminated from the investigation. At the time of the call she was drunk. As is well known, drunken women are often targeted by sexual predators, including imaginary ones, but she was sober when she gave her formal statement two days later.
Nothing came of the investigation until she was arrested in May the following year. She was said to have had 59 (fifty-nine) previous convictions, mostly for theft, and at this time when asked about the rape, she admitted it hadn’t happened.
When she appeared at Ennis Circuit Court on July 8, 2016, she was given a 3 year sentence with half of it suspended.
In April 2018, she was back in the news again. She was said to have 23 previous convictions for theft. That figure and the above figure of 59 could both be correct depending how they are calculated, eg two convictions from one court case. Whatever, stealing a charity collection box is about as low as a woman can get. Hillary Clinton take note!
