SHELLEY BJORKLAND — Serial False Rape Accuser

May 26, 1989: A woman claims to have been abducted and raped in New York’s Central Park. George Conner is arrested and spends five days in gaol before the police realise they’ve been had. Shelley Bjorkland admitted she had lied. (Her first name is sometimes misspelt Shelly). She had also made no fewer than 11 false rape complaints in California! And had been arrested on similar charges in 3 other states!

This may have been another COPYCAT FALSE RAPE ALLEGATION because on April 19, 1989, a woman (later identified as Trisha Meili) was savagely raped and left for dead in Central Park. The case of the so-called New York jogger became a cause célèbre because of both the nature of the crime and of the following investigation, trials and appeals.
