March 23, 2018: Rape victims ‘are dropping cases as police panic over evidence failings’ by Justin Davenport is published in the Evening Standard, (WEST END FINAL), page 14.

I picked up two copies of the London evening freesheet on the train returning home from Herne Bay; the above story did not appear in the WEST END FINAL EXTRA edition; this is a screengrab from the cyber version rather than a scan. Note the grandly titled Crime Editor is using the semantics of the sisterhood: it is alleged rape victims who are dropping cases. Furthermore, the police are not panicking but nationwide they are reviewing rape cases in view of a number in which electronic evidence completely undermined the prosecution, the Liam Allen case being the first and arguably the most outrageous. Typically, a rape accuser will drop or attempt to drop a case when exculpatory evidence comes to light; this case is a classic example.
