April 26, 2014: A woman tells the authorities she had escaped from a house at Buhl, Idaho more than two weeks earlier; she had been held as a sex slave for eighteen months. This story resulted in numerous duplicate clips being posted to YouTube and other video sites reporting the arrest of Oscar Ayala-Arizmendi on May 13. However, when the case came to court in August, these charges were dropped although he still faced drug charges. This went largely unreported.
According to Ayala-Arizmendi’s lawyer Keith Roark, his client and the woman were in an on-off romantic relationship. In December 2014, it was reported he had been sentenced to a year in gaol and faced deportation. One is tempted to ask if she hadn’t based this fairy tale on the far more shocking but true story of the Cleveland Captives.
