January, 2011: In Cambridgeshire, Christine Jordan meets two strangers on a bus, then invites them back to her apartment where she had sex with both of them. Five days later she meets one of the men – Kevin Percival – in a public house, and when he can’t remember her name she becomes so incensed that she phones the police and accuses him of raping her. Her lies don’t take long to unravel. Here is a report of her conviction at Cambridge Crown Court for perverting the course of justice. She would eventually receive a two year sentence. In mitigation, after her conviction, her advocate said she accepted the sex started off consensually, but insisted she withdrew consent when he encouraged his friend to join in. Thankfully, the jury didn’t buy it.
In view of some of the lenient sentences handed down to far more malicious false rape accusers – like Alison Welfare – this sentence does seem a tad harsh, but if she had pleaded guilty she would certainly have been treated more leniently. Any sympathy I may have had for her evaporated when I saw her photo in the Daily Mail of March 8, 2012, turning up for court heavily pregnant with twins and with a cigarette in her hand.
