Angela Stephens and Brandi Flodin

May 3, 1990: Teenagers Angela Stephens (misspelt Stevens in the article below) and Brandi Flodin tell police at Moscow, Idaho they were raped by two migrant workers. On May 4, Miguel Beltran Munguia and Feliciano Pena Rodriguez find themselves behind bars where they remain for 78 days. The girls planned and synchronised the false allegation, but were not able to give a coherent reason for doing so. File this one under CAPRICE.

It was Stephens who came clean. In July 1990, both girls are indicted for perjury. In November 1990, Stephens is told she must serve 72 days in gaol (clearly a quid pro quo for the time the men served). She is also ordered to address her substance abuse issues, as reported below by The Daily News (Pullman, Washington), November 8, 1990, page 8A.

Angela Jean Stephens of Troy, was born at Moscow, Idaho on February 25, 1971 and died July 19, 2021. She was the mother of two daughters, and was survived by her mother.
