October 2002: In Siem Reap, Cambodia, Swiss national Rudolf Knuchel is cleared of serious charges including raping two boys. The allegations dated to 2000.
This may be a case of FALSE AND TRUE, in particular a guilty man may have been framed because Knuchel was arrested again on similar charges in 2009. This article is primarily about New Zealand national Graham Cleghorn who was also convicted of serious sex offences in Cambodia. He was given a twenty year sentence, reduced on appeal, and deported. He died in October 2016 still protesting his innocence.
Whatever the truth about these two men, there have been definite miscarriages of justice resulting from false cases against Westerners in Cambodia. The second article was apparently first published on a New Zealand news site, but the original is no longer there.
The cases against Bart Lauwaert and Clint Betteridge were extremely dubious and definitely included false testimony.
