March 31, 2010: At Croydon Crown Court, Laura Pettitt is cleared of ten crimes against the young.
This isn’t a false rape allegation but is included here because if anything it is worse. Most mothers would rather submit to a rapist than allow him to do what Laura Pettitt was accused of.
I remember this case from the time because it was played out within my bailiwick; I live in Bromley and I have attended trials at Croydon Crown Court.

As with the vast majority of historical prosecutions for rape, nobody said anything at the time. Rather than asking as in such cases can all these witnesses be lying, the correct question is why did you do nothing to stop her? The answer is self-evident.
