False Allegations In Child Sexual Abuse...

June 1991: False allegations in child sexual abuse: the pattern of referral in an area where reporting is not mandatory is the full title of the above article by Graham Anthony and Jane Watkeys.

You can read it here.

The summary points out that of 410 allegations of suspected child sexual abuse over a four year period, 63 were judged to be false, this out of a population in 1989 of 402.9 thousand according to official statistics. That is a shade over 15%. Call that a low figure if you want. But over half were unsubstantiated, which means what? That it is very easy to make allegations.

The reader will note that the phrase child sexual abuse is defined very broadly, and includes exposure to sexually explicit material, which can mean what, a 14 year old reading his father’s pornographic magazines?

In three cases, the suspected abuser was thought to have been a woman. Now here are two very significant facts:

Most alleged offenders pleaded guilty.

And six men committed suicide prior to prosecution. If as is often inferred, you take this to mean an admission of guilt, check out this page and think again.

Note too false allegations made in custody disputes, and also that 9 teenage girls made false allegations hoping to remove a stepfather or similar from the home.
