September 1992: In the North of England, a woman accuses her father of raping her as a child.

This HISTORICAL allegation was clearly based on FALSE MEMORIES (and madness).

I say she was in the North of England when she made these allegations, that seems most likely because of where the trial was held. Also, she had been or was a voluntary patient at Cherry Knowle Hospital (which no longer exists) in Sunderland. But, as with the overwhelming majority of such cases, little information is available.

I have no idea when this bloke was charged, but at the age of 61, he stood trial at Teesside Crown Court in July 1994. He was cleared on July 6, in a mere 27 minutes.

“The daughter, now 34 and with a history of mental problems, reported her father to police after psychiatrists and social workers teased out her childhood imagination, concocting the theory that her depression and suicide attempts were caused by child sex abuse. The first alleged rape had happened 30 years ago; the last when she was 16. She had not known about them until undergoing therapy.”

The above is a quote from the Sunday Times, July 10, 1994. The article below was published in the London Times, July 7, 1994, page 3.
