March 1, 1997: Keller, who was apparently a drug addict, was being held in the infirmary of the Santa Cruz County Jail. She claimed that at 9.20pm she was raped by a male inmate. This incident led to the sheriff tightening up their policies to prevent it happening again.
What actually happened was Keller offered it to the much younger Ramon Cruz on a plate, and he obliged. She claimed to have been attacked in the shower by someone she was unable to identify.
Genetic testing proved her phantom attacker was Cruz, but a) she suffered no injuries, and b) Cruz had a cast on his arm.
Another inmate is said to have told investigators Keller claimed the case could be worth millions. Or perhaps an additional charge to go with her existing drug charges.
