The article below by Chief Reporter Ben Falconer which exposes her claim as a hoax was published in the Weekend Citizen, February 26, 2011, page 3. Predictably, the bulk of it is concerned with encouraging genuine victims to report, yadda, yadda, yadda.
In case you are wondering about forensic evidence, there is simple explanation for that, or rather the lack thereof. Two other reports, not linked here, explain why:
JUST IN – Brimscombe rape investigation shelved after victim admits no attack took place by Nick Wakefield appeared on the website of the Stroud News & Journal on February 28. It can also be found in NewsBank.
Here is a quote: “The incident was first reported on January 7”.
It is followed by the same quote from lead detective Andy Wasley.
The first published report was January 8: Woman, 30, is raped on village towpath appeared in the Gloucester newspaper The Citizen; this can be found in NewsBank but at the time of writing – January 4, 2021 – it appears to be long gone from the Internet.
The non-victim gave an excellent description of her imaginary attacker right down to his local accent and Nike T-shirt.
The article ends with the words: “Anyone with information about the assault should call 0845 090 1234 quoting incident number 157 of January 7”.
This case is further proof yet again, again and again, as if further proof were needed, that all purportedly delayed reports of rape warrant suspicion. Imagine what could have happened had this stupid tart not retracted, and a month or a year later the police had found the guy who matched the description she gave. This is what happened in the Crowell/Dotson case, in which the non-victim reported promptly.
