May 5, 1982: Carl Stottor meets serial killer Dennis Nilsen in a North London public house.
This isn’t a false rape allegation or any sort of false allegation, but is included here because it gives an insight, or should give an insight, into many of the claims made about repressed memories.
For those not in the know, Dennis Nilsen was a notorious serial killer who preyed on young men. Next time you hear some feminist nutjob talking about “gendered violence” or misogyny, ask her why homosexual serial killers don’t murder women.
You can read up on Nilsen in a number of places; there is also a lot of video of him on YouTube and other video sites, but first, watch this clip which consists of several sequences extracted from the 2006 documentary Surviving Dennis Nilsen.
The documentary claims Stottor met Nilsen in April 1982; according to Stottor at Nilsen’s trial, the two met on May 5 as stated above, but this isn’t important.
Before going any further, let me point out that whatever you think of men like Stottor, he deserves our sympathy. Clearly Nilsen trashed his already sad life. Having said that, do not be deceived by either his little boy lost act or his self-deception about his repressed memory. Okay, let’s go through the clip.
Running away from a violent “boyfriend” – get real. Many people come to London from the north and other parts of England not because they believe the streets are paved with gold, but because there are perceived to be opportunities here. As a Londoner born and bred myself, I will say that statement is half-true. Also, London was then and still is now, shamefully, a major haunt of homosexuals.
Stottor met Nilsen in The Black Cap, a public house in Camden Town. Built in 1889, by the 1960s, it was already a well-known meeting place for homosexuals. It closed on April 12, 2015.
Stottor was a drag queen as well as a homosexual (not all drag queens are). Why would a young homosexual go home with a man fifteen years his senior? Whether it was typical homosexual promiscuity, loneliness, a commercial arrangement, or some other reason, Stottor says Nilsen got him drunk. If you’ve never been drunk, alcohol distorts your perception. As if you needed me to tell you that.
What happened to him was surreal. It isn’t included here, but in the documentary, Stottor says Nilsen walked him through the woods while ostensibly accompanying him to the Underground station. He believes Nilsen had changed his mind again and intended to murder him there, but seeing a man walking his dog made him realise that wasn’t such a good idea.
It is clear from what he says next that he didn’t repress his memory, assuming that is even possible. We hear next from airhead Kerry Daynes who says this is exactly what happened. Daynes is a well-known psychobabbler in crime documentaries, and gullible with it.
Next, Stottor talks about these repressed memories returning, but by his own admission he was drugged up for much of the time leading up to that. We hear next that he was told the flashbacks he suffered were false memories. For a truly shocking and even sadder example of actual false memories and flashbacks, check out the case of Dianna Green.
Next, Stottor says the medication he was put on made things worse. He claims to have been “triggered” to remember what Nilsen actually did to him when he heard a detective use the phrase “sleeping bag”.
There is no reason to dispute the substance of what Stottor says, but again, this isn’t really a case of repressed memories. His consumption of alcohol that night could well have affected his recall, and it isn’t really so unbelievable that he couldn’t remember Nilsen’s address or even the road in which he lived. He was taken there by taxi, and the following day he was clearly in such a terrible state this his recollection might well have been hazy.
Carl Stottor moved to Brighton. Why am I not surprised? He changed his name to Khara Willis, which was no big thing, but his continued drinking was. He was found dead in his home on New Year’s Day, 2013. He was just 52 years old, and appears to have drunk himself to death. Sad.
One final point, his surname is often misspelt Stotter; his full name was Carl David Stottor; his birth was registered at Eton in the first quarter of 1961.
