The first story actually appears on the Timeline at September 2012 where the date of this publication is given as June 28 – in the audio version of the story. I would assume this is something to do with South Korea being eight hours ahead of London time.
According to the Supreme Court, a total of 111 women were convicted of making false accusations about sex crimes between January 2012 and June 2013 (re the above caveat), of whom 65 received probation, 25 were gaoled, 20 were fined, and 1 received a suspended sentence.
Although the reference in the article is to sex crimes rather than rape, I would assume that all or most of them relate to rape or attempted rape; as in the West, the lenient sentences often handed down to false accusers is no indication of the gravity of the charge.
The reader may also notice there is another false rape allegation in the above article, a student from Goyang, but I haven’t included this on the Timeline because I can’t find any details relating to it at present.
In South Korea, men who are falsely accused of rape may sue for criminal defamation, a law which like the law of rape can be abused. This has led to the usual suspects whining about revenge accusations and the usual garbage about a chilling effect. Don’t believe a word!
