October 8, 2013: Daniel Rakestraw is cleared of the rape of another teenager in Blackburn.
Little Miss Anonymous gave pre-recorded testimony – presumably to avoid the male gaze. Instrumental in his acquittal – which took a mere half hour – appears to have been the fact that the jury might reasonably have expected her to have suffered significant bruising had she really been tied to a bed and raped repeatedly.
You may notice that his surname has been misspelt in the caption to the family photograph. Alas, that was as good as things got for Dan the man. On July 24, 2017, the same newspaper reported that he had been given a sentence of 26 months at Burnley Crown Court. From February that year he had been having sex with a 14 year old girl. He was arrested May 11. The girl said their relationship was consensual, but by this time he was 23, so there was no Romeo & Juliet exception for him. The day before he was arrested, Rakestraw was kicked out of his house. By his father?
Sad really.
