The illicit carnal knowledge of a woman effected by force, intimidation, threats, or deceit as to the nature of the act.
In India however, what in the West used to be called seduction, is also classed as rape. Coupled with the dowry system, this can lead to some extraordinary claims and even more extraordinary miscarriages of justice.
Also, we in the West tend to regard the female of their species as diminutive, submissive creatures. The reality is that Indian women can be just as toxic as white women, and at times, just as deadly.
December 24, 2016: In Rajasthan, the Indian police bust a racket in which more than 25 men were blackmailed with false rape allegations. This article was first published by the Times Of India in May 2018.

February 11, 2017: Indian police arrest Vandana Bhatt, Poonam Kanwar and Mahesh Yadav in Rajasthan, see article linked above.
May 4, 2018: The body of Dushyant Sharma is found stuffed in a suitcase in a village outside the Rajasthan city of Jaipur.
This is the most shocking of the cases here. Priya Seth came from a privileged background but turned to crime perhaps for the thrill of it. Her known criminal history dates to November 2014 when she was arrested with an older male accomplice for breaking into an ATM.
At the time of the murder of Dushyant Sharma, she was on bail for extortion/blackmail, ie falsely accusing men of rape in order to shake them down. In November 2023, she and her two younger male accomplices were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder.
