November 7, 1975: Singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie sends an incredibly cruel letter to her brother in Colorado.
This has to be one of the sickest claims in this database and one that gives me no pleasure to add because I have always been a fan of Buffy Sainte-Marie. I remain a fan of her music.
Some background information is necessary. Buffy Sainte-Marie was born February 20, 1941 and released her first album in April 1964. She became a legend, the most famous and arguably the most talented of Native Americans in her chosen field. Her chosen tribe was the Cree; she claimed to have been born on the Piapot 75 reserve in Saskatchewan, but she isn’t even a Canadian, much less a Canadian Indian. How she got away with this for so long I have no idea, although she certainly looks the part. She was definitively exposed only in October 2023 when a CBC documentary was broadcast. This station has often been criticised as an arm of the increasingly odious Canadian Government, but the people behind Making An Icon went to extraordinary lengths to document her lies.
If you are wondering why she was not exposed by her family decades ago, The Fifth Estate has the answer to that too.
Click here for a short exerpt from that documentary.
On January 3, 2025, Buffy Sainte-Marie was stripped of the Order of Canada. Below is the notice from the official Government newspaper, the Canada Gazette, February 8, 2025. A sad end to an otherwise spectacular career.
