November 23, 2002: A 13 year old girl is allegedly raped in Torquay. When I could find no follow up, I contacted Devon & Cornwall Police.

In the UK, the police are usually extremely circumspect about sex crimes, especially so when the victim – real or imagined – is underage.

Although this girl is said to have suffered injuries, their response to my Freedom Of Information request gives no details, but it is clear from the wording that no crime was actually committed. In the UK, the police never close a file on a case like this unless it has been solved. Never, not after decades. The second report listed, of an attempt to abduct a 14 year old girl on March 7, 2003, was likewise a hoax. The two girls appear to have known each other. Surprise, surprise!
