March 15, 2015: In Virginia, Ezra Zigarwi has sex with another Roanoke College student.

This is another absurd case of a drunken hook-up followed by retroactive withdrawal of consent, although it wouldn’t have been a laughing matter for the 19 year old had he been convicted. The story is related by Neil Harvey for The Roanoke Times, November 5, 2015, the day of the trial. Zigarwi was invited over by the non-victim.

She had been drinking for several hours and smoking marijuana, then he came on to her. She said she protested from the first touch, but he said while they were having sex she told him to stop, and he did. Then he left. She reported the non-rape at once but refused to submit to a physical evidence recovery kit at the hospital.

As he has been identified and her name is a matter of public record, I see no reason she should remain anonymous here, especially as some kind person uploaded a transcript of the trial evidence. As you can see, her name is Anna McLaughlin, and yes, she is white, yet another case of jungle fever followed by instant regret.

Zirgarwi did not take the stand, something an innocent man should always do in a rape case bar exceptional circumstances, but this is fairly standard for American courtrooms.

This was clearly a sordid encounter, regardless.

Here is a later report on the affair.
